The title says it all…and so does my earlier post on what the heck Fantacity is (see here). But the topic of what this post isn’t about telling you what it is…it’s about telling you what it isn’t…fair.
As you can see, I’ve already said a lot about Fantacity and how much fun it can be. What I also have said is that I didn’t really understand how they get away charging what they do. Let’s get into that a little further…
A group of us decided to pay a visit to Fantacity this past weekend to celebrate a friend’s birthday…and we had a great time (until the end-of-the-night).
Why? Simple - they charged us for things we didn’t order. What’s more is that since returning from Fantacity, I’ve heard that other people have had similar experiences.
I’m not a business owner, but I’m certainly no stranger to business finance and in my opinion, I don’t think charging customers for things they didn’t order (not just a one-time, thing, apparently) is good business practice. Do you?
What’s more, and potentially the even bigger issue is that it probably doesn’t help in building a good reputation. But hey, I’m just one person here…I’d be curious to hear what you think (please comment on this post if you’ve had a similar/different experience - I’d be interested).
With all of this taken into account, I’m downgrading Fantacity’s earlier rating as I want you all to be aware of this and take caution if you decide to go.
So flip on the disco lights, grab the mic, and start smashing the tambourine…just WATCH what you order…closely!
T&D Rating: 2.5 mics (out of 5) - from 3.5

Amen! Just order your drinks at the bar…
I appreciate your quick response to my e-mail!
By the way, my friends and I ended up going to another Karaoke place called Dae Bak Bon Ga (DBBG) instead of Fantacity. It is one of the better Korean restaurants downtown that also has Karaoke rooms at the back (that I didn’t know of. I would go there to eat before but never knew they had karaoke until I read about it online).
Why DBBG and not Fantacity?
- Because first of all, it was cheaper than Fantacity by $20 per hour (They charge $60/hr for the big room in Fantacity).
- Secondly, it was way easier booking a room at DBBG. Many people couldn’t make it and some called in at the last minute to join us so we had to keep calling DBBG to change our booking status. They were very understanding.
- Thirdly, they have a restaurant so if you happen to want to eat with your friends first before karaoke I would definitely recommend the place. I used to hate eating Korean food (no offense to Koreans) but DBBG changed my mind. I did a whole 180 turn after having tasted their eel dish (I know, of all the dishes I liked the eel one - the most unlikely dish of all).
- And last but not the least, you pay for everything before you enter the karaoke (not the restaurant) so there will be no confusion about how much you’re supposed to pay or not pay.

I know my experience there would not necessarily be similar to other people’s experience of the place (it also depends if you’re going there on a weekend because it’s a lot busier if you did).
I’m glad you had a good time, Kriza. Thanks for the new recommendation!
