Here’s a math problem for you…
Solve for x:
Molson Beer Contest + Apple iphone use in Canada = x
Solution:
No idea
Huh?!
Yeah, that’s what I said when I came across Catherine McLean’s article in yesterday’s Globe and Mail.
My favourite part (which pretty much sums it up):
…Molson Export beer is giving away iPhones, valued at $800, as one of a number of prizes in a current marketing contest in Quebec. The rules noted the iPhones will only be available as of January 2008 on the wireless network of Rogers Communications Inc. … However, Molson said it made a mistake. The company has no idea when the iPhone will be launched in Canada and is only on a waiting list …
Here’s the facts:
- I live in a Mac world (outside of the office) and believe me, Apple has re-defined the terms ‘customer service’ when it comes to thinking outside-of-the-box and being proactive in anticipating the coolest new applications and devices.
- I don’t drink a lot of Molson product
, nor do I know anything about the type of service they provide to their customers (aside from a really cool marketing campaign a few years back). - I can do some basic math and when I trying to ’solve for x’ above, I think someone at Molson’s could have done a little more homework before dangling the icarrot at the end of the istick for its latest contest.
- No one likes being lied to, do they? I don’t…especially during our latest karaoke experience here in Vancouver.
Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a really slick idea (and will likely be jumped on by many - including me!) One this I DO know for certain, though, is that customers North and South of the 49th parallel likely all appreciate the truth, and nothing but the truth, so help them Apple.
