market meats

20Aug07

If Goldie Hahn has been to this place, it HAS to be good, right? Of course it does!  And so goes my story…

mmfront.jpgBeing a Kits resident, I consider myself fortunate to live near Market Meats (on the South side of West 4th Avenue near Vine).  I’m a carnivore through and through so living close to a source of fresh meat (sounds like a horror movie, I know) is a good thing.

What sets apart Market Meats from the rest is not the fact that its meat is fresh (which I think is probably rule #1), but their:

  •  depth of selection (endless choices of every cut and type of meat known to man);
  • mmcounter.jpg

  • helpful and friendly staff (tend to know their customers by name - big points in my view - and can make recommendations for any event, cut of meat, wine pairing, time of day, colour of shirt you’re wearing, etc. that you can dream up);
  • pre-marinated product (rosemary garlic lamb steaks and tandoori chicken are by far and away my top picks);
  • reasonable prices (great value for the quality you get!); and
  •  ‘accessories’ for your meal (an ENTIRE WALL - and its a long wall - of rubs, cheeses, salads, fancy bottled waters, elaborate sauces…I could go on, but I won’t).

I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve: 1) enjoyed a high-end restaurant quality meal on my own when I’ve been working late and didn’t have enough time to prepare anything; and most importantly 2) been able to deceive and impress my guests by telling them that I prepared what they were served (thanks Market Meats!).  Ok, I may have told a few people the truth…but not many.

To wrap up (no pun intended), if you’re into meat, and I’m talking GREAT meat, get down to Market Meats.  Honestly.  There is nothing better.

But don’t just take my word for it, take Goldie’s (yes, I did see her in the shop once…don’t remember what she got).  I bet it was good, though.

T&D Rating: 5 steaks (out of 5)

    I concur….The people are warm and friendly….the huge selection and the fantastic smell of the meat & cheeses… all makes you want to eat, whether your hungry or not.I have had various cuts of meat from Market Meats….all superb…including a 25 oz steak that I grilled….the result was a ” melt in your mouth ” treat that I worked on over two days.

Who's linking?
