I will always make time for people or businesses who ascribe to the ‘thinking outside the box’ concept.
In my mind, it makes for a great customer or client experience. So…can you do that in film?
Absolutely.
Speaking of film, why don’t we take a movie that’s directed on a shoestring budget and comes stapled to a story that delivers some intense [realistic] emotion and messaging (and music, I might add).
Here’s your log-line (thanks to what I’ve learned from Save the Cat!):
An uber-talented and under-appreciated Irish busker/vaccum cleaner repairman dreams of one day making it big in the music industry. Because of a chance encounter with an admiring flower delivery girl, he starts to discover his dream, but he also discovers something else he wasn’t anticipating…love.
It’s the nature of this unanticipated journey, splattered with music that earned Once the 2007 Sundance Audience Award. And, in all honesty, will likely have each of you at the itunes music store downloading the soundtrack before you’ve even managed to return it to the video store.
What I think is particularly appealing about Once, and the ‘service’ it brings to you/me as a viewer, is that it’s real. I mean, really real. The leads are musicians in their own right, Glen Hansard is from the Irish band The Frames (aside: for another great Irish performer, check out Paddy Casey) and Marketa Irglova, an established pianist. Together…well, the movie kind of just ‘happens’.
Would have loved to have been in ellesse’s shoes back in June so I could tell them personally how much they deserved that award. Great work.
