Got kids?
- If you do, you probably have thought about where to send them to school.
- If you don’t, but plan to at some point, you will likely have to think about where to send them to school.
- If you don’t, and don’t plan to, you probably don’t care about where to send them to school.
- If you ARE a kid…you probably aren’t very happy with the whole school thing in general and won’t care about what I’m about to say (feel free to tune out now).
Regardless of which camp you fall into, I’m about to introduce you to a really cool tool that the kind folk over at ourkids.net have slammed together.
What is it? - It’s an interactive web page that allows parents, kids, relatives, family pets, whoever to search a HUGE databse of over 200 private and independent schools across Canada on incredibly detailed criteria. You know, questions that everyone needs to ask, like:
- What grades are covered?
- How much does it cost per year?
- What other schools are comparable?
- Does the school offer martial arts?
- Is there a robotics program?
But don’t listen to me…I don’t even have kids…I just think it could
potentially save a tonne of time if you’re considering sending your kids to a private or independent school in Canada (click the little green smartie button!)
What it isn’t
- It’s not the only resource you should consult
- It doesn’t cover the waterfront (I went to a private high school that’s not listed, for instance)
- It’s not going to tell you where to send your kids to school
- It’s not going to do your laundry
Ultimately, I think that the decision on where to send your kids to school (private or public) relies on one very important factor…your decision.
But, if you’ve decided that these are the schools you want to target, anything to help make that decision a little faster, a little easier, a little more efficiently, and a little more fun, is a good thing, I think.
Recess!

I found the magazine and website to be a great tool in helping me find the right Private School for my children. The website helps you narrow your search very easily and finds the best school that fits your child needs.
Good to know, Alex. I agree…it’s a really slick tool. If you’ve got kids or are just wanting to know about pricate schools, go there.
