Ok, I may be a little biased because I work downtown, but honestly, I’d take a bus to Portland for an appointment with Mariola Kobza at Bentall Physiotherapy. Yeah, she’s that good!
Where is it? It’s not exactly the easiest place to find, but don’t let that dissuade you…sometimes the best things in life aren’t those that are the most obvious (that’s what my mom used to say, at least).
Enough about my mom, let’s get down to what you need to know and why - Bentall Physiotherapy is in the basement of Bentall 4 (1055 Dunsmuir Street) in downtown Vancouver right next to my favourite lunch place and across the courtyard from Rex Grill.
Now, I’ve been unlucky enough to have my fair share of sports-related injuries over the years (playing football for eight years didn’t really help). And yes, they’ve been serious enough to necessitate me seeking outside assistance (read: physiotherapists, chiropractors, doctors, butchers, bakers, and candlestickmakers). You name it, I’ve seen them.
Strangely enough, and I have no idea why, a good deal of my injuries have seemed to occur on my right side (i.e., right ankle, right knee, right shoulder, etc)…but that’s besides the point. What Mariola offers is a straightforward, and bang-on diagnosis of what she feels is the issue. In my experience, what I’ve thought to be the problem when I’ve walked in to see Mariola is, nine times out of ten, way off. But, that’s why she’s a physiotherapist and I’m not.
So, if you, like me have twisted, turned, broke, fractured, bent, sprained, or hurt any part of your body, you’ll know what I mean when I talk about the benefits of a (good)physiotherapist.
Cutting right to the pulse of the matter, I think ’customer service’ in a physiotherapy context comes down to getting a good diagnosis from someone who knows what they’re doing, and although not necessary, can relate to your injury perhaps from personal experience (read: they play sports, run, jump off cliffs, etc).
I’ve told you before that I submit my body to extreme conditioning two or three times at week at Hadj’s plyometrics classes (yeah, I jump up and down like the little guy in the graphics to the left) and my visits to Mariola will, and have been, ramping up.
I actually hope you don’t have to take my advice here as being injured or ‘out-of-alignment’ (one of the buzz phrases from the biz’) is not cool. But if you do, Mariola is your physiotherapy swiss army knife.
