logoq4.gifA baker’s dozen.

That’s how old Quattro’s on Fourth Avenue (2611 West Fourth, to be exact) in Vancouver turned this year.  For you non-bakers, that’s 13 years.  For you bakers, that’s still 13 years.

Someone once told me that age is just a number (I think it was on my 30th birthday, actually).   Someone also once told me that a good restaurant, like a fine wine, gets better with age.

Given that I’ve been a repeat customer of Quattro’s on Fourth for 7 of those 13 ‘numbers’, I think that someone was on to something…I’m glad I listened to someone.

quattro-main.jpgLet’s get down to short strokes, though…why would you want to go to Quattros on West Fourth?  After all, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a restaurant critic.

What I am, though is someone who can identify great service.  When I do, I want to share it with you (that’s the whole point of of timinganddelivery.com, actually).

So here goes…here are are the main reasons why I’m a repeat customer and likely why Quattro’s on West Fourth has given countless others reason to twirl pasta and sip fine wine at the corner of West Fourth Avenue and Trafalgar Street since the last time Ace of Base had a #1 hit:

  • Their menu items (which would score huge points on the Scrabble board, by the way) are backed with big flavour AND presentation (careful presentation is a very good indicator of a restaurant rad.jpgwhich takes pride in good service, in my view);
  • More specifically (and if you’re a regular reader, you know I like to be specific), I’ve grown attached to a few crafty creations in particular (e.g., Radicchio Bocconcini - see photo to the right, Spaghetti Quattro, and Filetto di Vitello al Fungo); and most importantly
  • They have a server by the name of Karin who makes dining at Quattros on Fourth a lot of fun by personalizing your experience when you’re there - something that I take with me each time I leave.

Here’s what I think you should do:

  • go to Quattros on Fourth
  • when Karin is there (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) - she also serves at the Corsi family’s (owners of Quattro) Gusto di Quattro location in North Vancouver.
  • eat
  • drink
  • be merry
  • tip (if you agree with what I’ve just said)
  • leave
  • repeat

Why would you want to follow this crazy order of operations?  Here’s one good reason: Karin has customized the menu for me each time I’ve been there (big points!) by reading the table and arranging something she think would work.  I think that’s pretty cool, to be honest.

One of my personal favourites (the antipasti platter) has never been on the menu and is only available by word-of-mouth.  Well guess what….?  Consider yourself told!

Throw in suggested  wine pairings that are so dead-on, even Santa Claus would blush, and there’s an experience worth remembering (and sharing!).

So there you have it…that’s what I want you to know.   Aside from the prices being somewhat tilted toward the high side in my mind (which you should be aware of before you go), I can see why critics have regularly hailed Quattros as one of the best Italian restaurants in Vancouver.

Twist away…I think you’ll be glad you did.
