social bookmarking

Get the word out!

Four simple words that every blogger/web site developer likely has at the top of her/his mind. Don’t you think? I most definitely do…and I’ve only be at it for a few months!

So let me get to the point, if you’ve ever wanted to know how to drive hordes of traffic to your web site or blog, I’ve got some great tips for you.

social-bookmarking.jpgFirst…

you should probably ascribe to the notion that Web 2.0 and social bookmarking is here and it’s not going anywhere. Just check out what dosh dosh had to say about social bookmarking…love the graphics (Really cool image from Poster Web 2.0).

If you’re new to this, or like to learn about things visually (like I do) I think you’ll find leelefever’s paperwork video about how the heck social bookmarking works really helpful…and fun.

Second…

you need a good understanding of the best tools to use in order to harness the power of Web 2.0 (as there are a boat load of them out there), especially social bookmarking services!

Although I’m relatively new at this, I’ve certainly done a lot testing and if you want my advice (don’t need to take it, remember) simple is better…and I’ve found it with socialmarker.com.

Imagine for a second that you’re at the top of a massive pyramid of social bookmarking sites (34 of them, to be exact) and all you have to do is….submit. That’s what socialmarker.com does for you and your ‘getting the word out’ goal.

Over the past month or so, I’ve monitored my traffic closely in order to check which of these social bookmarking sites was bringing me the most visitors. The winner? Stumble Upon…mouses down! Buzzfeed.com was a close second…goldendoodles and Perez Hilton, who knew?

I have to tip my hat to dosh dosh and share some more link love as he’s written a great post on how to optimize Stumble Upon and make it sweat for you. This is good stuff, and it works. But don’t listen to me only…seomoz had some insane success with this as well, like 13,000 uniques in one week. Tight.

Lastly (on a related note),

you need to do something with your new-found traffic once it lands on your blog/Web page (earlier this month I talked about john chow dot com as someone who’s got this down cold!) I mean, really, who wouldn’t want to make $20,000 tax free…per month!

The next 45 years also prefers using Stumble Upon as their social bookmarking weapon of choice in order to supercharge their incoming traffic and promotes a three-pronged strategy for blogging success, similar to the one I’ve just mentioned: 1) create it; 2) promote it; and 3) earn it.

Like one giant jigsaw puzzle that keeps changing shape, Web 2.0 is here and it’s huge. If you can get your social bookmarking groove on and throw some SEO and monetization strategies into the mix, you’ve got yourself a bright future in the blogosphere.

Excellent links, Darren. StumbleUpon is my favorite, and has been for a long time. You have to be careful not to spam sites, and to make sure your presentation is suitable, but it can be a very good source of traffic.
