The Raconteurs fans (me included) will have something to be happy about this coming week as rock n’ roll juggernaut Jack White (of White Stripes fame) and his ‘other’ band are set to release their second studio album - Consolers of the Lonely.

What else is cool is that instead of going through an extended marketing/publicity dog n’ pony show, they’ve slammed this one out (due to hit shelves March 25, I believe) and are on the road immediately. What’s more, is that they’re coming to Vancouver on April 20th (to the Commodore, my favourite venue - where I saw these guys and many others)! I had a chance to preview the tracks (listed below) and believe me, they’ve packed a lot into it.

- Consoler Of The Lonely
- Salute Your Solution
- You Don’t Understand Me
- Old Enough
- The Switch And The Spur
- Hold Up
- Top Yourself
- Many Shades Of Black
- Five On The Five
- Attention
- Pull This Blanket Off
- Rich Kid Blues
- These Stones Will Shout
- Carolina Drama
Okok…I took the liberty of highlighting some of my favourites, but that’s just me…I want to draw your attention to things that I hope you’ll enjoy.
Talk about timing their delivery in action! Direct from an email from The Raconteurs:
The album was mastered and completed in the first week of March. It was then taken immediately to a vinyl pressing plant. Then to a CD pressing plant. Then preparations to sell it digitally began. March 25th became the soonest date to have it availabl e in EVERY FORMAT AT ONCE. The band have done no interviews or advertisements for this record before this announcement.
The purpose: to get the album to the fans as soon as possible and as we promised. We wanted to get this record to fans, the press, radio, etc., all at the EXACT SAME TIME so that no one has an upper hand on anyone else regarding it’s availability, reception or perception.
With this release, The Raconteurs are forgoing the usual months of lead time for press and radio set up, as well as forgoing the all important “first week sales”. We wanted to explore the idea of releasing an album everywhere at once and THEN marketing and promoting it thereafter. The Raconteurs would rather this release not be defined by it’s first weeks sales, pre-release promotion, or by someone defining it FOR YOU before you get to hear it.
Hope to see you at the show (even though we probably won’t know each other…still, just being nice).
