As I sit down to write this, so many things are going through my head.
Like, why do I have to run out of wine gums when I don’t feel like going to the store?; did the dog get enough to eat today?; how cool would it be if I didn’t have to pack before I go away on Friday?; and how can the writers of Lost sleep at night as their series continues to stretch out into the realms of bizarro-land? Yeah, I know what you’re saying, Mr. Dressup’s tickle trunk probably had less surprises in it than that crazy barrage of meaningless thoughts. But so what?
By now, you may or may not already be aware that from-time-to-time I like to talk about music. And with that, comes a good deal of time spent with my itunes/ipod/ibuds/and a lot of other things that begin with ‘i’ and have to do with music. So, what I thought I’d do is share some of these audible orgasms that I’ve been flirting with of late. And, how better to do that then creating a new platform to launch these artists into your neck of the woods. Enter timinganddelivery soundcheck #1:
-
Yelle (Pop Up) - a happy, poppy, 1980s’y, and very french electro melange of goodness. Yelle is a one women show whose music wants to make you get up and dance in a strange, Max Headroom/breakdancing kind of way. Think roller skating, a french Cyndi Lauper (with more style), Mitsou (bye bye mon cowboy), Tron video game noises, and mix in some cool grooves, and Yelle pops out. Just throw on ‘Amour du Sol‘ and see how long it takes before you feel like jumping up and down and calling up a bunch of friends to go glow bowling.

We the Living (Heights of the Heavens) - found out about these guys thanks to none other than Perez Hilton’s listen to this. Imagine what would happen if Coldplay got together with Keane/Embrace/Gomez…and then make the songs a lot shorter. Powerful, anthem-like lyrics and imagery that will undoubtedly have some of you tearing up (watch out for ‘London Rain’ and ‘Best Laid Plans’). They’ve also got a really talented graphic designer on the payroll…nice work (fans will stick to this album like fly paper, whilst wearing fashionable hoodies and throwing unique-shaped stickers around).

Silversun Pickups (Carnavas)- damn! I love the indie rock scene out of LA! Aside from making guitar players out there smirk at the play on words, Silversun Pickups have got mad skills (would be ‘mad skillz’ if they were into the rap scene…but they’re not). These guys know how to plant a hook and write lyrics. They’ve got a heavy acoustic/light-electric guitar melody with a rhythm that can easily get you within the first 30 seconds. The lead singer’s vocals are on the higher end of the range and coupled with the solid beats and a dude that seriously knows his way around a synth/laptop, don’t be surprised if you’ve got them on repeat on your next run/trip to the store/walk/night out. Don’t believe me? Try out ‘Rusted Wheel’ and ‘Lazy Eye‘ and call me in the morning.
I’ll keep the technics spinning over here, so stay tuned for more timinganddelivery soundcheck!
