I’m a Family Guy fan and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Although, I will admit that the humour often crosses the ‘moral/ethical/PC’ line, but when they break out the 80’s references and their original music, I laugh so hard my cheeks hurt. This kind of combines both of these things, but I digress.
Speaking of music, and being as moral/ethical/and PC as possible, it’s time to rip into
timinganddelivery soundcheck #4:
-
Matt Costa (Unfamiliar Faces) - I wasn’t overly impressed with this album at first, to be honest. Although it’s grown on me since my first listen back in October 2007, Costa’s 2006 Songs We Sing (jam packed with little audio nuggets that will almost certainly make everyone listening to it a front seat singer) has set a pretty high back for this former skateboarder and friend of Jack Johnson to jump over. Having said this, though, Costa does live up to his poppy, happy, acoustic-y sound and leads with some power anthems like ‘Mr. Pitiful’ and ‘Lilacs’ (my personal favourite). This one is worth the d/l.
-
Flight of the Conchords (Flight of the Conchords) - I don’t know if I can say anything that will do this album justice. I mean, honestly, these two New Zealand acoustic rockers were picked up for HBO for a reason. And now, are writing their second season. I’ve already told you about why you should watch the Flight of the Conchords, but on April 24, 2008, they released their self-titled album and gave you 15 solid reasons to LISTEN to them as well. While there is no ‘new’ material per se, it does capture a lot of the songs featured during the first season. Being from Canada, and having grown up learning French in school, I almost cried laughing when I first saw Foux de Fa Fa. Baguette!

Zazie (Totem) - once again, here I am promoting French music (read: don’t forget Yelle). I’m not even French and despite what I’ve just told you about having grown up learning it in school, I quit in grade 10 (French class, that is, not school). But who cares? Music is music, in my mind, and when an artist has got their groove on, I respect that. Zazie is just one of those people. She’s originally from France and has been on the scene since the mid 90’s. I recently crashed into her 2007 album, Totem, and really found myself getting into it. Totem is a great album to have on while you are: 1) running; 2) entertaining; and/or 3) chasing after your dog in the park. Ones to watch out for: Na, Des Rails, and Jet Lag.
As always, lots more to come…
