It’s been a good weekend.
Not only did burgoo deliver some attentive service (with an all-over-the-place-menu custom built for those who want to eat a tonne of food and probably drift off to sleep within the hour), slam in two barbeque parties, and do a 13km run, but the weather was fantastic! And it’s about time!
So, whilst channel surfing tonight, I came across a very busy and impressive ad for a sport I don’t really watch…baseball. What was particularly interesting about FOX’s promo for the MLB All Star game (after you took away the baseball part) was that it featured Silversun Pickups’ Lazy Eye.
We started following Silversun Pickups earlier this year and are excited to see them at VirginFest in Toronto in September (not to mention a few others on a VERY big Sunday ticket).
It’s nice to see indie bands like Silversun Pickups skyrocket into the big time. Here’s hoping some of the others we’ve covered in timinganddelivery.com soundcheck series do the same!
And now for something completely different, and the topic of timinganddelivery.com soundcheck #8:

Neverending White Lights : I’ve mentioned it before that I’m proud to be Canadian. I’m also impressed with some of the musical talent we, as a country, have been pumping out of late. Neverending White Lights’ front man, Daniel Victor of Windsor, Ontario (had to put that in there) created the band with the idea that each song would present a sampling of different voices, styles, and artists, while retaining the ‘focused’ sound characteristic of a band (that’s straight from their Wiki…I can’t make that stuff up). According to the land of confusion, he also plays all of the instruments! (I have no idea).
Victor’s musical talent was hammered into him through piano lessons under the guidance of strict nuns at the local conservatory (I can’t make this stuff up). And, you can tell that they have really paid off. Notwithstanding his voice’s ‘presence’, tracks such as Of All The Things You’ve Done Wrong and Age of Consent paint a very deep picture. Remember those images you used to look at and after an insane amount of time (at least for me, it was) an airplane or a gorilla was supposed to appear? Well, I think you’ll find that same airplane or gorilla once you’ve spun Neverending White Lights a few times.
