If you don’t recognize those three words, you probably have heard the 5 minute and 58 second song that is attached to it.

v2.jpgWhat’s the history? What’s the deal? What’s this got to do with service? WTF?

Simple…10 years ago a band called The Verve put pen to paper and crafted this massive anthem which was released in June 1997 as the lead track on their 3rd album (Urban Hymns). I remember it very well (was travelling Europe shortly after the release and it was massive…Wonderwall massive)

The result? A HUGE success. In fact, I recenty discovered that Rolling Stone ranked Bitter Sweet Symphony as the 382nd best song of all time. What’s more, in May 2007, NME magazine placed Bitter Sweet Symphony at number 18 in its list of the “50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever.”

That was then, and this is now. As seethewhiteofmyeyes reports…they’re back!

What are you to make of all of this? Well, following the band’s reunion earlier this year, The Verve have revealed the names of some of their new songs, the first new material they have written in over ten years!

This is great news as Richard Aschroft is a brilliant songwriter. How does this tie into service? It doesn’t really, aside from being great news from a band that really knocked one out-of-the-park with a massive power anthem and solid tracks surrounding it.

Let me put it to you another way, it’s kind of like having dessert before dinner….you know it’s going to be good, it’s now just a matter of waiting. If it’s anything like Urban Hymns, it’s worth it.
