If you fired a warehouse, the words ‘nuevo latino’, Brazil, food, Argentina, copper, and Cuba into a blender, you’d get something really messy.

But if you ventured down to 52 Powell Street in Vancouver’s Gastown warehouse district, you’d get something really close, without the mess. 

It’s called Cobre….and it’s cool.

So…in true fashion of saying what I do, and doing what I say, Laura (the gf) and I ventured down to Cobre two weeks ago. Thanks to Jason (co-owner) and our server’s knowledge of the ‘nuevo latino’ menu (HUGE plug for the maple chipotle glazed short ribs!), I am hooked.

Cobre has got the following for you to enjoy (at least we did – let me know otherwise if you disagree):

• A really cool atmosphere, complete with large slate entrance, copper ‘ceiling scoops’, ‘bricks n’sticks’ finished warehouse look, and tasteful lighting;

• Staff that enjoy what they do (or seem to) and know how to pair wines with food (huge marks);

• Management that take pride in what they do and encourage staff to have fun (saw this a few times during the evening);

• A menu that will satisfy anyone;

• Service (and you knew I’d get to it) that was timely and very well delivered.

What nailed it for us (OK, I admit, Cobre had me after the short ribs arrived) was the extra time Jason took after our meal to show us the Wine Vault Lounge that can be reserved for private parties.

Guess who’s booking there next…
