animal-emergecy-vancouver.gifI’m not happy.

What’s even worse is that I wasn’t expecting this kind of treatment from dogcity.ca, a company that has been nothing but great to me as I’ve talked about earlier. I suppose we all make mistakes, but when it comes to mistakes when someone (or some pet) you care about is injured and needs attention, there’s little room for negotiation.

I’ll be brief as I don’t really feel like getting into it all over again given all the grief this ‘mistake’ has created for me over the past few days:

  • Gallagher had gone on his usual Friday walk with dogcity.ca and was put back at the usual time (mid-afternoon);
  • I got home on Friday night to discover blood on my floor (dog prints with (human) footprints on top of them);
  • I then discovered a massive laceration on Gallagher’s back paw that was in immediate need of medical attention (one problem – it was after my vet had closed);
  • I spent an entire Friday night/early Saturday morning at the Vancouver Animal Emergency Clinic, who gives great service (thanks Dr. Craigdallie), but at a very steep price; and
  • Gallagher will need to be monitored over the next week to ten days and is on medication to keep off infection.

The whole point of my story isn’t to lay blame for Gallagher’s injury. That’s part of the deal…the dog goes out, he plays, he gets hurt (like the time he hurt is leg). I can accept that.

Why I wasn’t notified as soon as it happened (recall the bloody paw (and walker) prints all over my floor when he was dropped off) so I could have come home and:

  1. given Gallagher the attention he needed when he needed it (read: timing and delivery!);

  2. avoided destroying my entire weekend due to lack of sleep and missing my Christmas party; and

  3. saved myself a lot of money (as I said before, the special trip to Vancouver Animal Emergency Clinic was anything but affordable – thank the powers that be for PetPlan!)

You want to know the best part? They sent me a bill today for December walks.

Tactful? You be the judge…
