I told you last week that I finally broke down (well I didn’t break down, exactly) and picked up an Xbox 360 Elite

Now…in my defense, I haven’t really played video games in a number of years and nor do I really have the time to.

guitar-hero-iii.jpgBut…and you knew that was coming, after a brief introduction at my friend Rich’s place (the guy behind the Nintendo wii promotion I told you about last summer), I am now hooked on probably the biggest thing since Vuarnet sunglasses in ‘85…Guitar Hero 3.

I particularly liked artstechnica’s review of Guitar Hero 3 and what the ‘experience’ really involves (I’ve bolded the good part for you):

There are four stages of playing a Guitar Hero game when you’re a beginner. First, you know you’re going to look foolish, and you’re going to fail a bunch of songs. Then, you play a little bit and you start to “get” it; you understand how the notes work, and your fingers limber up. Next, you start to really nail the solos on easy, and soon you’re getting enough confidence to play medium songs. Lastly, addiction kicks in, and suddenly you’re playing songs with the guitar behind your back and your friends cheering you on while waiting for their turn. This is a game where friends teach friends how to play so they have more co-op partners; it’s practically viral.

I play guitar as a hobby.  I also don’t mind the odd Poison track from ‘89.  So yeah, I like it.

But unlike what the good folks down at engadget pointed out to me, there won’t be any Guitar Hero 3 blending going on (bizarre, yet interesting all at the same time).  Speaking of interesting, but not overly surprising, was Metallica’s Guitar Hero 3 lawsuit.

Whatever your preference, for those about to rock…we salute you.

My kids have been playing Guitar heroes on the various platforms for quite awhile. Keeps them entertained for hours. My kids are in university. Says loads about the entertainment value of this game for all age groups. I just have to remind them to turn the volume down when they are duelling it out.
