I guess you could say that I do two things quite often:
1) drink coffee; and
2) meet people.
If you put the two of these together, and mix it up with downtown Vancouver, you get something that sounds like an everyday routine for most folks.
But when I put (1) + (2) together in my routine, I get something other than (3).
In my view (accounting for quality of service and staff likeability), the answer most often looks and sounds like Glass City Café at 769 Hornby
When people ask me: “Where the hell is that?”, there are a couple of descriptors I keep in my information arsenal (one will/should stick):
1) it’s next to the Artigiano (the most obvious one);
2) across from the Art Gallery (getting closer);
3) between Robson and West Georgia; and
4) on the West side of the street.
So, now that you’ve found it…go.
Why? Well, the answer to that is quite straightforward – each and every time I have gone, the coffee is fantastic (it’s Artigiano’s own blend), the servers (who rotate fairly infrequently it seems) tend to be smiling and looking you in the eye when they talk to you (believe me, this is lost on some), and the manager works hard at making sure you are happy (last time he came to the table with my coffee specifically and ensured our party was happy). I like that.
I’m not mixing words here…Glass City Café,has:
- employees who seem to like what they do;
- a menu that complements the quality of its coffee very well (particularly lunch);
- a modern/hip style (love the music selection and colour scheme/design – props to surface collective for the wall art pictured above);
- a loyal client base; and
- an environment that just feels good when you’re in it (hard to describe).
In contrast to other coffee shops I like to have meetings in, I haven’t yet witnessed any displays of psychic brain power at Glass City Cafe.
At the rate Glass City Café has continued to impress with their service, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s on the board next time I’m there.
