I’ll be straight with you, this review should have come a lot sooner
Why’s that?
Well, seeing as though Pinky’s Steakhouse in Kitsilano is:
- somewhere I’d rather of been instead of this place;
- somewhere I’d been to previously, but didn’t stay too long;
- within walking distance from my house and serves amazing steak.
So, cut to my office Christmas party last weekend. We probably managed to escape, not in a ‘needed to’ sense however, around 7:30ish (started at 3) and were both quite hungry – in a I’m a carnivore and live in Kits kinda way.
Both Laura and I had passed by Pinky’s Steakhouse in Kitsilano a number of times and figured it was about time we got down to it. So, we hopped in a cab downtown and made the Southern trek to 4th avenue (probably a good idea considering we live in that area).
Knowing how busy the Vancouver restaurant scene can be at Christmas time, whether it be the YEW restaurant + bar or Italian Kitchen hype back in 2007, I already knew we were going to be facing some strong headwinds as soon as we approached the hostess at Pinky’s in Kits. And, true to form, we did…30 minutes for a table.
We put our name down and decided to head across the street to Trattoria Italian Kitchen to check out the scene there as well. Same story, 30 to 45 minutes of idling in a waiting area – both were slammed in the lounge.
Not wanting to spread ourselves too thin, and thinking we could potentially lean on the hostess at Pinky’s in Kitsilano to grab us a table early based on good behaviour, we retraced our steps and took our chances.
It worked…we were shown to our table in under 30 minutes near the back (great location and comfortable booth – would highly recommend) and proceeded to enjoy one of the best Christmas dinners in Kitsilano I’ve ever had. Laura would likely agree.
Because of our server, Jenn (she wears glasses and has brown hair – so be sure to get her next time you’re in), we thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our evening. So Jenn…thanks so much for your fresh personality, sense of humour, knowledge of the menu (Piato’s could take some notes here), and recommendations!
I would highly recommend the 16oz bone-in ribeye (love the onion rings on top…thanks to Raj for the photo) or the 7oz filet medallions for mains with their unbeatable french onion soup (I challenge anyone to recommend better…comment below). Don’t forgot the plush potatoes and cowboy salad.
Oh yeah, don’t wear a belt…you’ll likely want to throw it out before you leave.

Pinkys – a steak after my own heart. I really like Shore Club’s ribeye too, I’d say the two are the best in Vancouver.
