I may be completely out-to-lunch with this, but I just in from a cold and wet walk with my dog (11:05pm) and I swear I heard 8 to 10 gun shots fired in the distance here in Kitsilano.
It’s now 11:10pm and I hear the faint sound of police sirens as well. With the increased in shootings and alleged gang violence that has been in the news this past week, I sure hope it hasn’t found it’s way into Kits as well.
UPDATE AS OF MONDAY MORNING (7:20am):
Unfortunately what I heard was what I thought. A man was shot in IGA parking lot (around 10th and Arbutus)…and the suspect fled on foot; the victim has subsequently been sent to hospital. Gang activity has not yet been determined.

Welcome to my nightmare… Scary!
I hope this isnt gang related, but I do know that many gang members frequent the Kits area and its various social watering holes and restaurants.
After having lived on the west side for many years, then the Steveston area of Richmond ( great area for raising babies- down the road of course..
, I moved to the Panorama Ridge area of Surrey in order to make it easier for my children to visit their father. Located along the edge of the Newton area and running along highway 10, it is a residential area with nice homes and schools.
Unfortunately, the successful gangs who have money, reside here as well. And as everyone in the world seems to know now, Surrey is in the middle of a Shoot Em Up cycle that I hope ends soon.
The loss of gang members in these incidents honestly doesn’t bother me. Harsh, but the system is unable to handle them in any manner befitting the nature of their crimes. However, the increasingly real possibility of the loss of incidental victims, combined with the loss of security one feels in their own ” haunts”, is intolerable.
I wish they would take care of business out in a dark field somewhere with no one else around, a la old school, Mob manner.
