Earlier tonight, we were sad to hear that the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is forcing The Cannery to close its doors after 38 years.
Each and every time that we have been at The Cannery (two of my own birthdays, a couple of family anniversary dinners, and countless other stories friends and family have experienced), the service, not to mention the seafood quality, has been nothing short of excellent.
My particular favourite finishing touches/personal memories:
- personalized menus for special events
- our server’s willingness to steam the label off of our wine bottle as a keepsake to remember the event

- tasty recipes which are surprisingly easy-to-make (for me, at least)
- the extra assistance our server gave us on our second-to-last visit in which a pair of sunglasses were lost (and later found)
- lobster oil for sale at the front door.
Apparently due to security issues with the Port Authority and the Olympics, The Cannery will see its doors close for good unless other options are unearthed.
Owners SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts are apparently committed to the business’ future and relocation. And, if you happen to be a fan of The Cannery as well, a web petition has been started called Save the Cannery!
If they aren’t able to obtain enough signatures, or find other options, The Cannery will cease to exist next March.

Dear Sir:
Don’t close The Cannery. It is a great place.
