There’s a couple of fundamental concepts that exist when it comes to restaurants in the ‘quick(er)-service’ industry (in no particular order):
- It shouldn’t take an hour for eggs
- An appropriate # of washrooms should exist
- Tables should be able to be re-arranged to accomodate guests
and
- It shouldn’t take 15 minutes to get a beer
Well, it did at The Mill Marine Bistro (take 15 minutes to get a beer, that is). Eggs, washrooms and table situation were in check (save the fact that you have to walk [what seems like] 50 yards down the seawall to use the facilities, but I digress).
I’ve been to The Mill Marine Bistro on many an occasion. And, along with the majority of people that I know/have seen at The Mill Marine Bistro, it sure seems to me to be an ‘after work beer on the patio/nachos/bruscetta/thin crust pizza, and other kind of food, kind of place’. And that’s fine.
All I am saying is that if you are catering to that crowd, and there most certainly are crowds there when the weather is co-operating, proper attention should be paid to the beer situation (one of the three legs to their offering, I’d think).
On my most recent visit, I required three re-fills of my Granville Island Maple Cream pint. And, aside from the fact that it took about 10 minutes for me to get noticed after joining my party (was late), the average wait for a new pint re-fill was not exactly happy times. As I said earlier, 15 minutes was one such period we clocked him [don't remember our server's name] at.
On the whole, aside from one situation last summer where a cheese question/possible substitution was posed to our server about their burgers which required the manager’s sign-off (no idea why it had to be taken up the chain - still didn’t work out), service at The Mill Marine Bistro is decent.
There certainly is a lot of pleasant traffic, action (sometimes even Blue the Wonder Dog), and hustle n’flow for the sun drenched tables each and every time I’ve been. Next time, I think I’ll order the beer before I sit.
Hope to be proved wrong,
darren
