vancouver-wedding-photographerThis is the first part of a series of posts that probably will go on for a very long period of time (or at least until 09.04.09).

Getting married in Vancouver is cool and difficult all at the same time.

Kind of like trying to wash your hair in the shower after working out at the gym…without the gym or the shower.

So, yes, I’m getting married (to the most beautiful girl in the world)! But that’s not the point of this post (maybe later, but not now).

What I’m on about is that the process of getting married [in Vancouver] has a lot to do with service. Which is why in the days and months leading up to 09.04.09, picking off good and bad service experiences (and recommendations from others) will be easier than getting bitten by mosquitoes in the middle of a Winnipeg summer after a rainstorm.

Which leads me to my first service experience: trying to arrange a photographer (we’ll talk about venue selection at a later date…and have fun doing it!)

getting-married-in-vancouverLaura and I have had about 5 meetings so far…and each of them have been very nice and pleasant to deal with. The range of prices, however, are about as far apart as the dinner rolls are from the prime rib at an Applebee’s buffet table.

Without naming names, I’m going to drop a Vancouver wedding photographer’s name.  Why?  Because I can.

Jamie Delaine.

This is not an advertisement, nor is it a blatant attempt to try and get a discount on her services. Not at all. What it is, though, is a shout out to Jamie for ‘being different’ and differentiating herself from the pack by customizing what she can offer to best fit our needs. Granted, you could probably argue that anyone in the Vancouver wedding photography business would do just that.  And I’d agree with you.  But this…is different, and here’s why:

  • Work compares very favourably to some of the highest priced and most senior Vancouver wedding photographers we’ve seen.
  • Service (especially the fact that she’s agreed to a first meeting and demonstration of what she can do at Laura’s upcoming big birthday celebration at Cobre, stands head-and-shoulders above the rest…and we’re not even married yet.
  • Knows how to harness the power of social media
  • And…she’s not even 19 years old!

At 19, I was still making excuses for falling asleep on the front steps of my parents’ house and getting woken up by the milkman.

I don’t know where we’re going to land on this decision…I’ll tell you one thing though, if you’ve been married, or are planning to get married (like us), you’ll probably agree that aside from staying within your budget…it all comes down to people.  And people, if you think about it, make all the difference in the world.

Congratulations, Darren! I’m always ecstatic for people who are getting married, which brings back happy memories of my own wedding 10 years ago. :) You’ll discover a lot of things about yourself along the way, and it’s good. Just enjoy every minute of it!
