dufflet-pastries-urban-fareI like sweets.

But not all of us do.

Brick Top Polford: Go and put the kettle on.
Turkish: You take sugar?
Brick Top Polford: No thanks, Turkish. I’m sweet enough.
Snatch, 2000

After I had the chance to read what Vanessa had to say about Dufflet Pastries in Toronto, I soon discovered that Dufflet was a line that Urban Fare Vancouver carried!

So, being in Vancouver, and someone who would tend to disagree with Brick Top Polford’s response, I hurried on down to Urban Fare at 1133 Alberni.  If you haven’t yet seen it, it’s big, it’s new, and it’s right beside MARKET at Shangri-La.

To be honest, I was lead on a bit of a run-around.  Which is something I wasn’t really expecting from Urban Fare.

I had initially gone to the frozen food section asking for Dufflet’s line of Grab + Go frozen desserts (as that’s what I was told Urban Fare carried).  I was promptly told that they don’t carry anything of that name.

This response just didn’t feel right.

So, I:

  • made my way to the dessert/cake section, who ‘looked up Dufflet Pastries ‘in the book’ – no such vendor; and then
  • I was walked over and introduced to the grocery section – no recollection of such a product; and then
  • I was walked over to the frozen food section, and introduced to the same person from before; and then
  • I was told that he did actually remember Dufflet and that they carried cakes a few weeks ago, but no more; and then
  • I was walked over and introduced to the ‘chocolate/cookie’ section in the middle of the store; and then
  • the music stopped.

Tara was her name.  And Tara…is all business.

She knows her stuff…she doesn’t waste time…and she wasn’t afraid to tell the grocery/frozen food employee to go into the back and pull out a new set of boxes that hadn’t been unpacked as she knew that Dufflet had a new line in stock.

Apparently, the Grab + Go line was taken out-of-the freezer two weeks ago and in their place, the ‘Tumbles’ and the ‘Crackles’ line of cookies/treats were installed.  The ‘Tumbles’ are photographed above (and btw – extra points for a slick display).

Looking forward to dessert…and thanks Tara – the Bitter Sweet Chocolate Crackle (Maple Cashew) looks flippin’ fantastic.

Sorry Brick Top,

darren

I love the new Urban Fare…go there for lunch every week (right next to my office). Had no idea there was a ‘chocolate’ station. tx
