Wine Tour ‘07: burrowing owl

08Oct07

In Empire Strikes Back terms, Burrowing Owl Estate Winery is, for all intents and purposes, Yoda.

If you’ve visited, you will know exactly what I’m on about. Here’s a couple of light sabre-like reasons why:

    img_2473.JPG

  • the eight wines Burrowing Owl produces are superb

  • the powers that be have bestowed so many awards on Burrowing Owl even Obi Won Kenobi would blush

  • the service is personal, yet professional, precise, yet casual (these people are friendly…not because they have to be…the simply just are - I notice things like that, I hope you do too)

  • the brand and its reputation is bullet-proof (even the Deathstar’s tractor beam can’t touch this one)

  • the story of how Burrowing Owl came to be is really cool (see here)

  • the Sonora Room’s staff (Burrowing Owl’s restaurant) are absolutely excellent (yes, they too are friendly and also are great at selling Burrowing Owl wine - I bought a whole bunch off our server)

  • the free tours (and associated tour guide - can’t remember the gentleman’s name…but he had a beard) are informative, well-planned, and really cool - do take one if you go

So you can see, Burrowing Owl really made it easy for me…I don’t have to say much. The winery and the service that its staff pour out pretty much sell itself!

Here’s a simple to-do list for you:

1) Try the wine…enjoy it.

2) Get to Oliver, BC…visit it.

3) Do yourself a favour…stay at it (see your accommodations on the left!)

4) Take some pictures…talk about it

Burrowing Owl truly does deserve all the praise they’ve received and will continue to get. So go on, get up there, you’ll be glad you did.

T&D Rating: 5 decanters (out of 5)

    Couldn’t agree more!

Probably one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in the provine of BC. Drove in on a whim, did the tour, sampled some wines, had lunch, bought a case…..$750 later can’t wait to go back.
